About Us

The office of International Education and Development facilitates the international education of Appalachian students, to

bring international students to study on our campus, and to help and support faculty in their international work. In operational terms, this means that the Office of International Education and Development to create experiences for students to live and study in a different cultural setting, and to become fully functional international citizens.

We bring citizens of other countries and of different cultures to the campus to enrich the lives of our faculty, students, and local citizens. We encourage and support the Appalachian faculty who strive to increase and enhance the international learning of our students through their teaching, research, and service in many venues.

Study Abroad

Appalachian offers two distinct types of Study Abroad programs. Take some time to learn about each type before you make any decisions; you may find yourself participating in both programs. It has happened before!

Appalachian Overseas Education offers students a wide selection of programs. Students have the opportunity to earn up to 9 hours of credit while spending 2-8 weeks abroad. With the exception of some language programs, courses are taught in English by Appalachian professors.

Appalachian's exchange and study abroad programs are the result of direct linkages with more than 30 overseas institutions where you can study; these may be exchange or study abroad programs. This is the best place to start looking for programs, but you are not limited to these.
