ISSS provides immigration support to all international scholars. In this section, you will find important information on immigration statuses on ASU faculty.
Once scholars arrive in Boone they should check-in at International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in Suite 321 (3rd floor) of the Plemmons Student Union. Every international student and scholar joining Appalachian State University is required to check-in before classes or employment begins. In order to complete a "check-in" scholars should bring with them the following documents: passport, U.S. immigration documents, and I-94 Admission/Departure card. The Office of International Student and Scholar Services staff can assist scholars with any questions or concerns they might have.
During check-in, scholars will be given instructions on how to apply for a Social Security Number, how to contact the Payroll Office to determine eligibility for tax treaty benefits, and what steps the scholar need to take to be put on Appalachian State University’s payroll, etc...
