Visa issues for international students

The Office of International Education and Development is happy to offer the following services to international students:

Before students arrive:

  • Issue of DS-2019 and I-20 forms
  • Email and phone communication to answer incoming students’ questions
  • A host family and/or App Peer that students can begin to establish relationships with before they arrive
  • Mail service - OIED will hold packages that students order before they arrive in the office

During Attendance:

  • Provide airport pick-up once each semester
  • International student orientation designed specifically for international students’ needs
  • Academic advising for exchange students
  • Issue health insurance and help with any health needs
  • Advising on immigration issues by appointment or by drop-ins
  • Advising and mentoring on any issue an international student wishes to discuss by appointment or by drops-ins
  • Update students DS-019 and I-20 forms as necessary
  • Issue Curricular Practical Training, Pre-Completion Practical Training and Post-Completion Practical Training to eligible students
  • Issue Academic Training to eligible students
  • Assist students with obtaining a social security card including providing one trip to the Social Security Office each semseter
  • Email and phone communication to answer students’ questions
  • Academic support by monitoring students’ progress through students’ advisors
  • “This, too, is America”- a series of classes and excursions for international students.  There is an annual trip to Washington, D.C. and many others
  • Provide an array of social programming designed to help international students know the local community
  • Award international student scholarships per year
  • Intervene with any relevant bureaucratic problems

After graduation

  • Support Optional Practical Training and Academic Training
  • Maintain students’ records
