AS-U-GO brings international speakers into classrooms to meet face-to-face with students to talk about world cultures.

AS-U-GO connects ASU students, faculty and local community members with area K-12 schools, community colleges and organizations for "Cultural Conversations" as a free public service. AS-U-GO speakers use their knowledge, experiences and talents to engage their audience in interactive conversations and learning experiences designed with classroom teachers to complement classroom instruction.

The AS-U-GO program helps to dispel stereotypes through the personal interactions, dialogue, and activities shared between our international speakers and NC students and teachers.

AS-U-GO serves public schools and community organizations in the following counties:  Watauga, Alexander, Allegheny, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, and Wilkes County.

Check out our current list of Speakers and their cultures of expertise.  To make a request complete an online request form and we'll get back with you to schedule a visit to your classroom. Also please see our Transportation Policy and Map..   And for more information, please contact us.

AS-U-GO speakers are students (international, exchange, and education abroad returnees), visiting scholars, faculty and community members with extensive international living, work, & /or study experiences.

To participate in the "AS-U-GO", new Speakers are required attend a Training Workshop, which is offered early each semester. Teachers and pre-service teachers (Education majors) are also highly encouraged to participate in the Training Workshop as well.

The "Cultural Conversations" between AS-U-GO speakers and K-12 students embody a powerful cultural learning tool for which there is no substitute. This workshop provides resources and strategies both for speakers and for teachers who are interested in integrating AS-U-GO Speakers to complement their existing curricula and to further develop an intercultural mindset among K-12 students.

Through AS-U-GO, the Office of International Education & Development provides international speakers from more than 40 countries to engage students in face-to-face interaction to learn about other cultures from first hand sources.
