Dr. Nguundja M.D Uamburu obtained her dental degree in Nairobi, Kenya, and is currently a registered dentist with over five years’ experience in her profession. She is currently the chief dentist at one of the largest referral hospitals in Namibia, Katutura State Hospital since 2014, heading a department of over 25 professionals. She implemented ways to improve patient care and efficiency in a short period of time and introduced private dental professionals into hospital ward rounds to create knowledge-sharing amongst private and public health professionals. In addition, she successfully implemented a dental intern training program at the hospital and played a key role in the recently launched dental internship training program for the Ministry of Health and Social Services Nationwide. She also teamed with a non-governmental organization, TLC Outreach Namibia, to expand oral health awareness and education in schools. Upon the completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, Dr. Nguundja hopes to continue her ongoing passion for finding ways to improve the lives of the underprivileged in her country.
