Yohanna Alemayehu Hailu - Ethiopia

Yohanna Alemayehu has five years’ experience as a youth advocate, focusing on education, gender equality, and youth participation. She is the president of her university’s female student association. Yohanna is using her position to design and implement programs to reduce gender-based violence, which affects many female students and causes them to drop out of school. She also designed a project which provides informal education to children who live in penitentiaries with their mothers who are inmates. Yohanna is passionate about promoting education. She serves as an active global youth ambassador for A World at School, participating in school programming. Yohanna aspires to see every child access affordable education. Upon completion of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, she plans to continue her work, reaching more underserved children with informal education.
