All F-1 and J-1 international students must provide proof of immunization via MedPortal. 

All F-1 and J-1 students are required to maintain health insurance while enrolled at Appalachian State University. Students must either:

• Enroll in the university-provided health insurance OR 
• Apply for a waiver and provide proof of their own health insurance via MedPortal

J-1 students must either enroll in university insurance or provide proof of insurance that meets the following federal requirements:

• Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness
• Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000
• Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000
• A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.

F-1 students must either enroll in university insurance or provide proof of insurance that meets the university requirements.

If you do not apply for a waiver and provide proof  of insurance before the deadline, you will be automatically enrolled in and charged for the university insurance plan.
