Rebecca Yoon

Rebeccaa YoonRebecca Yoon is the founding director of English Language Studies at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She has more than 12 years experience in teaching, assessment, program development, and administration in language institutes and K-12 international education. She is a member volunteer both regionally and nationally with TESOL and NAFSA and holds a Master’s Degree in TESOL from the University of Central Florida.

Mallory Sadler

Mallory SadlerMallory Sadler serves as Executive Assistant to the Associate Vice Chancellor for International Education. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia and is currently pursuing a M.A. in Higher Education from Appalachian State University. She acts as logistics coordinator for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Acheivement and Mandela Washington Fellowship Programs at Appalachian.

Michelle Hair

Trivia Eggers serves as Office Assistant to the Office of International Education and Development. She holds a Bachelors Degree in General Studies from East Tennessee State University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Emmanuel Christian Seminary; she is currently pursuing a graduate certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She acts as logistics assistant for the Mandela Washington Fellowship Programs at Appalachian.

Alan-Joshua Carrasco

My name is Alan-Joshua (it's a double name) and I am from Durham, North Carolina. I am a senior double majoring in Political Science and Global Studies with minors in Arabic, Commercial Photography, and Judaic/Holocaust/Peace Studies. In my free time I like to travel, go hiking, make art, and hang out with friends. In the future, I hope to attend graduate school and pursue a double Master's Degree in Divinity and Development Practice. Fun fact about me is that I have been wearing something blue everyday since the second grade .




Reyes Ostos Barra

My name is Reyes Ostos Barra and I am from Seville, a big city located in the south of Spain.  I have been living and studying abroad in North Carolina since 2019. I am currently a sophomore, and I am majoring in International Business. During my free time, I like to go on adventures such as hikes, going skiing, riding horses, going to the beach... but I also like listening to music or watch movies during rainy days.  

Katie Bigelow

Katie BigelowKatie Bigelow serves as Grant Assistant for the Office of International Education and Development. She previously worked for the Mandela Washington Fellowship and is now a part of the TEA Fulbright Fellowship. She is currently  a college junior at Appalachian State University and is studying Public Health as well as Spanish and Hispanic Studies. Katie plans to study abroad (and graduate) in Chile during the Fall semester of 2022. From there, she would  like to teach English abroad before coming back to the United States to explore career options in the Public Health field. Additionally, Katie started her own non-profit in 2016 called Joining Generations as a sophomore in high school. Katie has enjoyed learning more about the non-profit sector these past 5 years while simultaneously building her program to impact both high schoolers and senior citizens in senior care homes through engaging,  interactive, intergenerational activities.

Currently, he is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in International Business and Supply Chain Management with a minor in Japanese from Appalachian State University. He acts as as a Grant Assistant for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement program at Appalachian. 





Olivia Fischer

Olivia Fischer in front of a mapOlivia Fischer is a junior Global Studies major with an Arabic minor from Charlotte, North Carolina. After finishing her undergraduate degree, she wants to pursue her masters degree in Political Science. Her dream is to work for the United States Department of State as a diplomat. Olivia is ambitious and scholarly, she is passionate about learning about other languages and cultures. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hiking, reading, listening to music, and spending time with friends.
